Music Mogul Danny Goldberg has described the late John Bonham, Led Zeppelin's original drummer, as a �an angry and mean drunk�.

Goldberg, world Health Organization worked as a publiciser for the band, makes the comment in a new book, Bumping Into Geniuses, which details his life inside the music industry.

He as well recalls an interview where Bonham, wHO he regards asthe� �greatest drummer in rock�, responded angrily to a critic who questioned his prolonged drum solos.

�Bonham grabbed the reviewer's lapels and yelled, 'Look, I've had around enough of you people!'� he writes.

The exerts, which appeared in the New York Daily News, also high spot how the atmosphere around the band in 1973 "was ane of tension, exacerbated by huge quantities of cocaine. Violence was one bad mood away."

Bonham's word, Jason, took over his drum seat when the band reformed at the O2 Arena in London last December.

Goldberg's account book is released next month.

Marvin "Slim" Scandrick is no stranger to matters of the heart.

Just take a listen to tracks like the vulnerable "Only You" off the R&B quartet 112's 1996 self-titled debut. The former lead singer belts pleading lyrics like: "Where do I go / what must I do / If I can't live without your love" or "Cupid," which finds him reassuring his lady, "never wanna leave you / ain't no life without you," in his high-pitched falsetto.

Twelve years later and on the eve of the fall release of the appropriately titled "Love's Crazy," it's evident love still makes Slim's world go 'round.

"Love makes you do all sorts of crazy things," says the Atlanta native about his latest project, his solo debut album via a joint venture between his own imprint, M3 Production, and indie label Asylum Records. "This album is about finding solutions. Instead, it'll help you heal and at the same time it'll be like a manual -- if you don't have the right words, or are trying to set a nice setting, just play the album and let it hit the Slim spot."

But it hasn't always been stomach-butterflies for the crooner. Just three years ago, Slim admits he was frustrated with the industry and wanted completely out.

"I was about to give up on music all together," he says. "I had great investments going on. In this industry you go through so much that it becomes discouraging, especially when you're investments are doing better than your music."

But after persuasion from his peers and fans -- plus a spontaneous, reflective, two-week trip to Sydney just two-and-a-half years ago -- Slim decided he'd face the music one more time.

He started M3 and began to work on his own music again. November last year, Asylum offered Slim a deal he couldn't refuse � a solo contract and a partnership with M3. "It felt like I was finally getting my swag back in music," Slim says.

Today, Slim is putting the finishing touches to "Love's Crazy" with the help of producers Track Masters, Sean Garrett, Polow Da Don, Jazze Pha, Designated Hitters, Midnight Black and Odds-N-Ends, who are responsible for the set's first single, "So Fly," featuring Yung Joc and Shawty Lo. (That track has peaked thus far at No. 34 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.) Other guests include Faith Evans, Gucci Mane and C Murder so far.

While a second single hasn't been selected yet, Slim says there are plenty of songs to choose from, like the infatuation track "You Got Me (Addicted)," the heartfelt "Sweet Baby," and the title track, about "being crazy about a girl."

In addition, Slim is currently on a promotional radio tour, and plans on embarking on a bus tour soon. And, although he wouldn't disclose any specifics, Slim did reveal 112 is currently working on their next group project and that he hopes to potentially release that album via M3.

Still, Slim is confident and excited about the prospect of "spreading the love" as a solo artist first. "I really believe in myself. I have a sound, and I come from a brand known around the world," he says. "I trust myself and my work to build momentum and build a legacy for myself and for those to come."

HOLLYWOOD — In this reporter's humble opinion, the '60s TV show "Get Smart" is one of the funniest programs of all time. So, when MTV News screened the movie adaptation Thursday night as part of our Sneak Peek Week, building up to Sunday's MTV Movie Awards, people like me were delighted to learn two things: 1) For once, Hollywood didn't screw up a remake. 2) Yes, Steve Carell really is that nice.

"I always knew this was where I'd end up, based on my physical gravitas," the "Office" star said of his new role as an action star. "It's basically this and then adult films."

The film was screened at L.A.'s swank ArcLight Cinemas to a crowd that practically laughed themselves hoarse. Afterwards, the humble Carell entered to roaring applause and sat down for a Q&A with our very own Mr. Entertainment, Josh Horowitz.

"It's a very difficult thing to decipher," Carell pondered, when Horowitz hit him with the tough question of who would win in a battle of super-spies. "I'd have to say Jason Bourne; meanwhile, Maxwell Smart would be seduced by James Bond."

Once the crowd began asking questions, however, things truly got seductive. One fan offered Carell's film an unusual compliment, to which he repeated: "I think we have the new poster: 'A perfect drink of movie awesomeness.' "

For those who haven't heard, Carell shows off some fancy dance moves while portraying Maxwell Smart in the June 20 release. When asked about his moves, the funnyman didn't try to 86 the comment; instead, he got up and asked Horowitz to dance.

"We're actually going to do more of a senior prom dance," Carell joked, pulling the moderator close and putting his hand on Horowitz's butt.

A fan asked Carell about kissing his love interest in the movie, the beautiful Anne Hathaway. "Was it good stuff? It was very good stuff," he grinned. "It was kinda the best sort of stuff."

He also made reference to a tender moment he shares with his co-star the Rock. "Very, very, very good stuff," Carell teased. "And he smells like fresh-baked cookies."

But in all seriousness, Carell repeated many of the same thoughts he had when we visited the "Get Smart" set so many months ago, insisting that the stars just wanted to bring back the irreverent comedic style perfected by Don Adams, Barbara Feldon and the rest of the original cast.

"We all loved the source material. Everyone involved in the movie loves the original 'Get Smart,' " he explained. "It was our idea that it would be a spy movie that was a comedy, rather than a spoof of a spy movie."

Carell loved the material so much, in fact, that he gave the crowd a major revelation: He's already thinking about making "Get Smart" his first official franchise. "I think everybody involved with this one would love to do another," he said to the crowd. " 'Get Smart 2' depends on the success of 'Get Smart' 1."

Naturally, this being Hollywood, several aspiring actors stood in line to ask Carell a question about getting started in the business. It took the funnyman more than 14 years to get his "40-Year-Old Virgin" break in Hollywood, and his advice was simply to keep taking every bit of work you can find until you get noticed.

"This is really fun, really easy," he said of his recently acquired role as motion picture leading man. "And they pay you way too much."

Cbs - Schieffer Wont Retire After All

CBS News President Sean McManus has apparently persuaded Bob Schieffer to put his
retirement plans on indefinite hold. Schieffer had originally said that he planned
to retire after the presidential inauguration in January. Then he said he would continue
to host Face the Nation but "reduce my schedule a little bit." Today (Monday)
the Washington Post reported that Schieffer had signed a new long-term deal
with the network. The newspaper said that with Katie Couric's future as host of the
CBS Evening News in doubt, McManus wants Schieffer to be ready to fill in for
her as an interim anchor. Schieffer has played that role before, following Dan Rather's
departure from the program. In fact, he boosted the ratings of the program during
his brief tenure. They have since plummeted following Couric's arrival.

Acquires Cannes Gran Prix winner for under $1 million

IFC Entertainment, one of the more active film buyers at the recently concluded Festival de Cannes, has acquired U.S. distribution rights to the Gran Prix winner "Gomorra" for under $1 million.

Directed by Italian Matteo Garrone ("Primo Amore"), "Gomorra" is based on the best-selling Italian novel.

"Just when we thought we had seen it all, Matteo Garrone has reinvented the Italian Mafia picture with such originality and invention that it seems entirely new," IFC Entertainment president Jonathan Sehring said. "We think that this completely fresh take on a well-known genre ... will take American audiences by storm as it did in Cannes."

"Gomorra" interweaves five stories rooted in the reality of mob-ruled society around modern-day Naples. Fandango Portobello Sales handled the transaction for "Gomorra" producers Domenico Procacci and RAI Cinema.

IFC, which obtained all U.S. rights, plans a multiplatform release day-and-date with its as-yet unslotted theatrical limited release by IFC Films. The company intends to release the film on its proprietary video-on-demand service simultaneously with the theatrical bow and also strike a cable TV deal, but a spokeswoman said that wouldn't necessarily result in the film's debuting on the IFC cable net.

Also at Cannes, IFC previously announced its acquisition of films including Arnaud Desplechin's "A Christmas Tale," starring Catherine Deneuve, and "Hunger," whose director Steve McQueen won the Camera d'Or for best first film at the fest. The fest was marked by modest film bidding this year, with U.S. rights to high-profile films including Steven Soderbergh's "Che" going unsold.

The Gran Prix is considered something of a runner-up prize to the fest's Palm d'Or, which this year went to the Parisian high school drama "The Class." U.S. rights to "The Class" are still up for grabs.

By contrast to this year's quiet fest market, Sony paid $11.5 million for the Joaquin Phoenix-Mark Wahlberg starrer "We Own the Night" at last year's fest.

Videogame Violence Does Not Translate To Real Life

There is little evidence linking videogames to violence in the real world, a UK academic has claimed.

Patrick Kierkegaard from the University of Essex said his research shows previous work on the subject is biased towards proving games provoke acts of brutality and anger among players.

Award-winning games, such as the oft-vilified Grand Theft Auto series, are seen by some to promote violence.

Mr Kierkegaard believes that actual scientific evidence pointing to the real, measurable effects of games on human beings is limited and, most importantly, biased.

Evidence from brain scans carried out while gamers participated in violent digital actions does seem to point to there being a correlation between the violence on screen and certain areas of the brain related to aggression.

Despite this, there is no obvious link between real-world violence statistics and the advent of videogames, Mr Kierkegaard explains.

"Violent crime, particularly among the young, has decreased dramatically since the early 1990s, while videogames have steadily increased in popularity and use," he writes in the International Journal of Liability and Scientific Enquiry.

"For example, in 2005, there were 1,360,088 violent crimes reported in the US compared with 1,423,677 the year before. With millions of sales of violent games, the world should be seeing an epidemic of violence... Instead, violence has declined."

Mr Kierkegaard added that books, films and other media are just as likely to provoke acts of emotion, violent or otherwise.
